- Summary
- COI synopsis: For centuries the Shire horse was the driving force of British agriculture. The breed was almost extinct but today, the Shires are back in business - and more popular than ever before. Vicki Luke went to see the "gentle giants" in action at the Shire Horse Centre near Maidenhead, and talked to breeder Joe Henson about the battle to save the "great horse of England" from extinction.
- Researcher Comments
- Includes an extract from Rank Film Distributors’ film ‘Henry V’, showing a battle charge and from a Yorkshire Television ‘Country Calendar’ special on shire horses, showing horse ploughing. NB: Information drawn from the Australian version. ‘London Line, No. 585’ ran the same story
