Summary
COI synopsis: Winchester’s lovely cathedral has enduring links with city’s past and modern life. Here visiting judges attend a special service before the Assizes, a Festival of Seamen is held annually, and medieval plays are presented. Near by are the Bishop’s Palace; the ancient Pilgrims’ School; famous Winchester College, founded by Bishop William of Wykeham; the market round the historic City Cross; and the picturesque alms-houses, the Hospital of the Cross.
