Summary
COI synopsis: From the age of stone to the age of steel, the world we live in has been shaped by the materials we use. Tomorrow’s world will be shaped by the strange, complex materials being developed today. This issue takes a look at a few of these materials for tomorrow. New shock absorbing fibres can be built into any material to make it less brittle, producing cables which won’t snap, metal which won’t fail, and steering columns which absorb the energy of an impact.
