Summary
COI synopsis: From the age of stone to the age of steel, the world we live in has been shaped by the materials we use. Tomorrow’s world will be shaped by the strange, complex materials being developed today. This issue takes a look at a few of these materials for tomorrow. A new heat resisting, insulating fibre is made from the same material as sapphires - and resists hotter temperatures than any other fibre known. It opens the way for lighter, better insulated furnaces which waste less fuel.
