MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Oxford V Cambridge Boat Race. DESCRIPTION: After a false start by Oxford, the 124th University Boat Race got under way with the Umpire’s flag still up. The conditions on the river were very rough and they took their toll, when a mile from the finish, the Cambridge boat sank. Oxford, who started favourites, went on to cross the Finishing Line. SHOTLIST: GV Cambridge crew carry boat to water’s edge. STV Oxford. SV Cambridge into boat. LV from water - both crews in boats. GTS pan both crews, LV ditto. SV Cambridge pull away to starting point. SV crowd. GV both crews ready for start - Oxford make false start. SV crowds. GV Oxford return to start. GV crowd watch from boathouse. GV both crews pull away (NB umpire’s flag still up) then flag goes down. Both crews racing. SV Oxford slightly in lead. GV race. SC Oxford in lead by _ length. GV zoom into race. SV crews up river Cambridge nearest camera. Crews up river Oxford in lead. GV ditto. LV Oxford in lead both crews approaching Hammersmith Bridge. SV under Hammersmith Bridge. Oxford well in lead with Cambridge following - now coming into rough water. SV rough water sprays over umpire’s launch - crews in back ground. SV Cambridge struggle in rough water and same catching crabs. Umpires launch slows down. LV Cambridge crew sinking. LV ditto with rescue launch alongside. SV rescued crew into launch. Last member dragged into launch. GV Oxford rows up from Barnes Bridge in shocking weather. SV ditto. LV massed crowd with umbrellas. SV Oxford to finish and past post. SV Oxford after race in boat. SV Cambridge’s empty boat towed away.
