Summary

MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: British Standard Institute Test Centre in London. DESCRIPTION: The safety of the public is the concern of the British Standard Institution. At their Test Centre of Hemel Hempstead, consumer goods of many shapes and sizes are put through vigorous tests. SHOTLIST: SV pile of helmets waiting to be tested, man takes one pan to BV man walking away with helmet. SV man placing helmet in position on tester, angle shot weight being hoisted above helmet. CU helmet on test, it is hit by weight. SV helmet being put on another tester. CU helmet on tester below metal spike which will be struck by a weight which in turn will hit the helmet. SV man hoisting up weight. SV helmet on tester. CU ditto weight is dropped. GV man at helmet testers. SV man taking helmet off tester & seeing what damage has been done. CU ditto (small dent in helmet). SV helmet on strap strength tester man doing up strap. SCU pressure gauge showing pull on strap, angle shot strap about to break, it does. GV men closing doors on pressure equipment used for testing leaks in windows. CU lock being pushed home. SV man taking notes as test starts. CU window (with water running down it) on pressure equipment. SV man testing for leaks he runs his finger along bottom of window. SV machine testing handles on mattresses by picking it up by handles then dropping it over & over. SV couple rolling about on mattress pan to mechanical roller being pushed over mattress. SV woman testing fabric for fire risk. CU ditto machine incorporates a bunsen burner on small track which moves burner at a slow speed across fabric). CU flame from bunsen which a woman is holding, zoom out to show woman setting teddy bear alight, she picks it up & puts it out. CU fan in wind tunnel. SV paraffin heater being tested in wind tunnel. CU heater flaming. LV roller car & dummy on track being used to test seat belts. GV man fitting seat belt over dummy. CU ditto pushing catch home. SV lump of lead being put on front of roller car. LV roller car on track, car is fired down track, it is brought to abrupt halt by hitting end of track. CU man removes lump of mangled lead from front of roller car. CU man looking at lump of lead.
