Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: England V Malta - European Nations Cup. DESCRIPTION: Malta meets the hard hitting English side at Wembley. The visitors put up a gallant fight, but finally went down five-nil. However, the game never lacked interest for a moment. SHOTLIST: GV teams onto pitch. SCU pan with one of the Maltese players. SV captains exchange pennants. GV crowd. TV Malta kick off & immediately go into a defensive position by passing back to the goalkeeper who throws it back out. SV Maltese keeper Bonaci. TV pan England attack Coates with ball, shoots, but it’s deflected by a defender. TV pan, England take corner, Martin Peters jumps to head ball. Ground shot as Peters heads to Chivers who in turn heads over bar. TV pan England attack, Francis Lee is tackled by defender & Malta break away. TV England retain ball in mid field by strong tackle. TV pan England attack players shoot but goalkeeper just tips it over the bar. GS Maltese congratulate goalkeeper. TV England take corner - no good. GS as players scuffle, Alan Clarke kicks for goal at point blank range but ball hits defender’s leg & rebounds. GS pan ball comes into picture, Martin Chivers heads goal from a free kick. LV scoreboard - England 1, Malta 0. GV Chivers hassling defender while waiting for ball. TV England attack round goalmouth, Francis Lee heads goal. TV England run back. GV crowd. LB scoreboard - England 2, Malta 0. 2nd half - England kicks off (R to L) - Bobby Moore kicks ball forward into Maltese goal area, pan as it is played around, Maltese player, handles with ball (appeal). LV from behind goal Alan Clarke saves penalty - England 3, Malta 0. GS pan ball comes over. Chivers heads into goal. England 4, Malta 0. TV pan England attack Chris Lawler hits a shot from long way out, pan as it goes into net, pan back to England players running around. Final Score. England 5, Malta 0.
