Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: AAA Championships. DESCRIPTION: This may have been the last Three A’s athletic meeting in London. The event’s likely to be transferred to the provinces. But for a possible finale it’s full of excitement in both field and track events. And we’re sorry to see the final retirement of Ron Clarke, that great Australian runner who still holds some of his seventeen World Records. A presentation is followed by a lap of honour by this outstanding athlete. SHOTLIST: GV pan White City Stadium arena. SV Greensway (No 9) running for long jump. SV Alan Lerwill (No 10) wins long jump. SV Les Mills (NZ) No 13 winning the shot put. CU pan shot through the air hits ground. CU Mills puts on track suit. GV pan start 110 metres hurdles. Head on shot ditto - D Hemery on extreme left breaks tape, scene ends. CU Hemery. LV towards & pan start of 1,500 metres final. GV pan runners round track. SV crowd. SV pan No 21 Kirkbride followed by Ian Stewart and Wilkinson. SV Mike Bull No 1 clears pole vault. SV Niwa of Japan No 8 wins pole vault. SV pan finish and run in of 1500 metres. No 41 (Wilkinson in lead followed by No 21 Kirkbride. SV finish of race, No 41 breaks tape at 123’, scene ends. CU Wilkinson (No 41). SV D Travis throws javelin (winner). LV pan javelin in flight and lands. GV pan start of 100 metres final. Head on shot No 30 (Rocky Symonds of Bermuda) wins race at 159’, scenes end. SV crowd applaud. CU Ron Clarke mounts rostrum for presentation. SV crowd applaud. SV Clarke presented with decanter & glasses. SV crowd standing ovation. SV pan to GV as Clarke completes lap of honour.
