Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: October 27th (Colour). DESCRIPTION: It was claimed to be the biggest, more militant and United Action organised in Britain since the Thirties. Certainly it provoked more speculation than any mass demonstration ever held in this country. But, in spite of the urge to violence by a lunatic fringe, the great majority of the marchers behaved with creditable calm. The biggest accolade must go to the Police. Refusing to be provoked, they maintained complete mastery of the situation along the whole route from the Embankment to the violent breakaway in Grosvenor Square. Movietone presents a record of the sights and sounds of this memorable Sunday. An object-lesson to the so-called Anarchists and the supporters of Chairman Mao, who seek to destroy the very basis of democratic society, without which this demonstration could never have been held.
