MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Indoor Athletics - Amateur Athletics. DESCRIPTION: It was Britain’s first big indoor amateur athletic event, and pounding round over the wooden track, something quite new for this country, competitors in the mile. Cary Weisiger, a 22-year-old American Marine, won by 25 yards. Here’s McIlroy, winning the 60 yards C. Valkama (Finland) won the long jump at just over 24 feet three. Arthur Rowe (Great Britain) beat his own European shot record of 3 years ago, but this fine effort was beaten by American Gary Gubner. Finally, the three miles. Derek Ibbotson had already won a first-day two-mile victory. Now he was to follow up with a 3-mile win. His time of thirteen forty-four point eight was a European best. SHOTLIST: Key scene.
