Summary

MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: New Records at White City. DESCRIPTION: Great Britain v the United States - and a meeting which certainly lived up to expectations. America’s Frank Budd was a certainty for the 100 yards. David Jones took second place. John Thomas, until recently world record holder, won the high jump for America. The winner of the three miles was Gordon Pirie, who set a new mark of 13 minutes, 16.4. Now for the second day. The women’s 100 yards was a trans-atlantic victory, but the British girls won in the end with a total of 56 points to 50. The 220 yards, and a magnificent victory for Britain. David Jones was the winner. His time, 21.2 seconds. Finally, the four by four forty yards relay. Adrian Metcalfe pounded through to win by 3 yards, and the British team set new Empire, European and UK National records. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV White City Stadium. LS pan with 100 yards race - men.
