- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Queen’s Guards. DESCRIPTION: Discipline typifies the Brigade of Guards. The Guards form a corps d’elite, which has fought on every front. One of the most bitter campaigns of World War Two was in North Africa. There the First Household Cavalry, as well as the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots and Welsh Guards were in the forefront of the struggle. In the heroic actions for securing a bridgehead on the Continent, Guards were heavily engaged. This was the beginning of the end of Nazi occupation. In the great campaign in Western Europe, the First and Second Household Cavalry Regiments, the Coldstream, the Scots, the Irish and the Welsh Guards fought with the utmost gallantry. They won many honours to add to those won in battles long ago. The Guards won six VC’s in World War Two. In Italy, General Lord Gort VC was present at the award of a VC to his son-in-law, then a major in the Grenadiers, now Viscount de L’Isle, Australia’s new Governor General. In Malaya, the Guards fought in that post-war campaign against Communism. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV guards marching. MCU the Queen salutes (on horseback). LS guards marching. Battle sequence.
