Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Famine in the Congo. DESCRIPTION: Recent reports of the appalling situation in the Congo spoke of 200 deaths a day from starvation. The people most grievously afflicted by the prevailing chaos are among the 300,000 Baluba refugees. They have fled from their own province and arrived in South Kasai. Suffering among these people, especially the children, is heart-rending. As always, in such a case, the Red Cross and the United Nations have been the first in the field. Pictures revealing the stark reality of the reports of famine stress the immediate need for greater measures of relief. SHOTLIST: Key scene. LS native camp. LS Baluba refugees. LS another.
