Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Narrow Escape. DESCRIPTION: Hardly a happy landing, but certainly a lucky one, for this four-engined Hermes airliner was carrying 76 people, all of whom escaped. The aircraft came down at Southend, but failed to stop after landing. It turned off at the end of the runway, ploughed through a field and finished up with its nose on the Southend to Liverpool Street electric railway. It’s reported that a train had passed just before the crash, and that another was due. SHOTLIST: Key scene. MS the nose of the Hermes airliner on railway track. GV same. Pan to tail of airliner. MS tail, pan to under-carriage. MCU nose of plane on track. CU same (head on) MS airliner’s propellers. MCU under-carriage. Low angle shot under-carriage. MCU nose of plane pan to tail.
