- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pirie Tops Again. DESCRIPTION: The first day of the meeting, and in the fifteen hundred metres there was strong opposition from the cream of the continent. Gordon Pirie, number 7, won this event, with Roszavolgyi (Hungary) second. Gordon’s time was 3 minutes 44.1, and that makes him the first British runner to quality for the Olympic fifteen hundred. The hundred yards was a big surprise: world record-beater Peter Radford lost the race to David Jones, who won three races that day. Monday now, and the 3,000 metres. This was a battle between Pirie and Roszavolgyi. It was Pirie again, who won this event, just over 4 seconds outside his own world record. Roszavolgyi was second. SHOTLIST: GV White City Stadium.
