- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Vive De Gaulle. DESCRIPTION: On the second day of his State visit, President de Gaulle (with his wife) was the guest of the City of London. At Guildhall, the Lord Mayor, Sir Edmund Stockdale, expressed the welcome in French words. On the third day, there was a great review on Horse Guards Parade, in honour of the President. Then, at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, the President inspected the old boys’ brigade. Sir Winston Churchill was there, too, for the Government luncheon. Finally, the last event of the visit: a gala performance by the Royal Ballet, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. It was a superb occasion, a gala night it was indeed! Her Majesty arrived with President de Gaulle, and Princess Margaret, with her fiancé, was present, as well as many other members of the Royal Family. SHOTLIST: GV Guildhall. MS de Gaulle arriving.
