Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Khrushchev in America. DESCRIPTION: The 15-mile drive from airport to capital, with President Eisenhower sitting between Mr and Mrs Khrushchev, gave the Soviet leader his first look at America. Very strong security precautions had been taken all along the route. Blair House, close to the White House, is maintained as the official residence for very important visitors. Host and guests posed for the cameras before Mr and Mrs K took up residence. The Soviet Premier was soon across at the White House to begin talks, but first he presented Ike with a replica of the sphere that the Russians have landed on the Moon. Later, he accepted Ike’s invitation to take a bird’s-eye view of Washington. In the evening, there was a formal state dinner, at the White House. SHOTLIST: LS cars in parade. FS same. MS same.
