Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Daily Mail Race. DESCRIPTION: From Marble Arch to Lydd Airport: - 75 miles. Covered in an hour and a half by Stirling Moss. He reached the finishing line at the Arc de Triomphe in just over two and three quarter hours. Captain Walker of the Special Air Service arrived at Chelsea Embankment on a split-second schedule. A dinghy hauled him out to a special raft where a Skeeter helicopter whirled him off to Biggin Hill. Then, Captain Walker transferred to a Hunting Jet Provost for the flight to Paris. In a Westland Helicopter he completed the journey to Issy, on the city’s outskirts. Then - a final sprint to another motor-bike and off again. 58 minutes to the Arc de Triomphe checkpoint! Lord and Lady Montagu travelled in a Humber of 1909 - the year of Bleriot’s historic flight. And they were only 2 hours slower than Moss! SHOTLIST: MS Helicopter (key). GV Marble Arch.
