- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Seaway Opened. DESCRIPTION: Her Majesty, with Prince Philip, was at St Hubert Air Station Montreal to welcome President Eisenhower. The very friendly greetings were followed by airport ceremonial, before the Queen and the President drove off together. The occasion was unprecedented: a peace-time combined operation. The official opening of what is probably the greatest engineering feat of modern times. The Queen referred to the Seaway as a monument to the enduring friendship of Canada and the United States. President Eisenhower spoke of the friendship of Americans for the people of Canada. To board Britannia, Prince Philip escorted Mrs Eisenhower to the royal yacht. Then, Britannia began her passage through the St Lambert lock. This was the beginning of a five-hour voyage on through the St Lawrence Seaway. SHOTLIST: Title. MS Airliner on runway.
