Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Wedding. DESCRIPTION: Princess Michiko paid a respectful farewell to her parents, Mr and Mrs Shoda before she drove in a vintage car to the shrine of the Palace where she was married to Crown Prince Akihito. The Princess wore nine separate garments, weighing over fifty pounds. Afterwards, the young couple posed for the cameras. Then, dressed in Western style, the royal couple drove through the capital towards the Emperor’s Palace when the scene was suddenly shattered: a man rushed from the crowds and hurled a stone, trying to climb into the carriage. 19-year-old Nakayama was quickly seized by the police and taken away. The drive continued, and the Crown Prince and his bride paid the traditional call on the Emperor and Empress, who, by ancient custom, had not been present at the wedding. . Brussels now, and the royal family rejoice over the engagement of Prince Albert and Donna Paola Ruffo Di Calabria, the daughter of an Italian Prince. The bridegroom to be is King Baudouin’s brother.
