Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Fire Horror. DESCRIPTION: The Roman Catholic School in Chicago, called Our Lady of the Angels: a fire broke out only a few minutes before the classes were to be dismissed. Many children were trapped but help was quickly on the spot. The rescuers did wonderful work, saving the lives of injured children and of others who’d been overcome by smoke. The toll was horrifying: eighty-eight people, most of them children, lost their lives. Twelve hundred were in the school, when the fire broke out. In the hospital were more than a hundred injured survivors, survivors of one of the worst school fires ever known. . Another fire swept across the countryside in California: a bush fire in film-star land between Hollywood and the Pacific. A fifty-mile-an-hour wind whipped the flames across the Santa Monica hills. Two hundred families had to leave their houses. Twenty-six homes, including that of Lew Ayes, were destroyed. SHOTLIST: GV school. MS window with smoke coming out. GV school on fire.
