Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Dispatch From Cyprus. DESCRIPTION: The scene is just outside Nicosia, and these pictures underline the fact that, with the recent flare-up of EOKA activity, the Security Forces can take no chances. Seen are patrols, on the search for hidden arms or suspects. And here are the first volunteers in Britain, arriving at Blackbushe Airport to be flown out to Cyprus. They come from places as far apart as Glasgow and Brighton, and they will work in the island as clerks, canteen assistants and so on. And here, in fact, are the first arrivals in Cyprus. They included 23 girls who will stay in Nicosia or in Famagusta. SHOTLIST: MS man and bren gun in firing position. MS lorry comes along road. MS man looks out of lorry. MS men jump off lorry.
