Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: White City Games. DESCRIPTION: It was Great Britain competing against an Empire and Commonwealth team. Diane Leather won the Women’s 880 yards Invitation. The Two Miles Invitation was a highlight of the News of the World Meeting. Ibbotson wasn’t expecting to take part, but there he was, trying to put Pirie in his place. But Clark took the lead with Pirie in second place, and finished 40 yards ahead of the field. The Half Mile was fantastic: Herb Elliott of Australia won it in the fastest time ever recorded in Britain - 1 minute, 47.3. Finally, the hundred yards with Gardner, the Empire Champion. Radford of Great Britain flung himself at the tape in a supreme effort and beat Gardner by an eyebrow! SHOTLIST: GV Arena. LS runners. MS winner - Diane Leather. CU starter.
