- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Trooping the Colour. DESCRIPTION: Horse Guards Parade, and people have come to see the Trooping the Colour ceremony, in celebration of the Queen’s birthday. The Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, and Princess Anne were there. Her Majesty the Queen, riding the police-horse Imp, arrived on the parade ground to receive the Royal Salute. The Queen then inspected the Parade, followed by Prince Philip, riding the grey Alamein, and by the Duke of Gloucester. The climax of the occasion approached: The Colour of the First Battalion, Scots Guards, was handed over by Regimental Sergeant-Major Hughes. It was received by the Ensign (Second Lieutenant Gibb). Then, the Escort-to-The-Colour prepared to Troop The Colour. Every man must recognise the Colour, that’s the tradition. After the Trooping, the march past, and placing herself at the head of her Guards, the Queen led the way back to Buckingham Palace. There, she took the salute once more. The fly-past by RAF Javelins had been cancelled, because of the rain. One more salute was taken by the Royal Family: the salute from the crowd, down below at the Palace gates.
