Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: 42,000 Tons of Tanker. DESCRIPTION: A forty-two thousand tons tanker was launched on the stocks at Clydebank. The ceremony was performed by the Duchess of Gloucester, who named the ship British Duchess. This vessel is the largest oil tanker yet built for British owners, and special attention has been paid to the comfort of the crew. British Duchess leads the way in the planning of bigger and bigger tankers. Fifty and sixty thousand tonners are already on order: for tankers have got to be big, to make by-passing the Suez Canal. . At Finnart, on Loch Long, in Scotland, an ocean terminal is well on the way to completion, and tankers of a hundred thousand tons can discharge their cargoes here. SHOTLIST: GV platform. MS ship.
