Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: ‘South Pacific’ Premiere. DESCRIPTION: The premiere of the film South Pacific took place at London’s Dominion Theatre. It has been specially adapted and equipped, and the film itself is big - seventy millimetres wide instead of the usual thirty-five. This was London’s first introduction to the new wide-screen Todd-A0 process, and the premiere was of-course attended by prominent film executives. There was the First Sea Lord and Lady Mountbatten, and a number of famous people: Max Bygraves, Stirling Moss with his wife, Carole Carr, Julie Wilson, Petula Clark, Alma Cogan, Frankie Vaughan with his wife, and Anna Neagle with her husband, Herbert Wilcox. There were garlands for the director of the film, Joshua Logan, and for Oscar Hammerstein. Also Mitzi Gaynor, star of the film, received a garland of South Pacific flowers.
