Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Easter Parade. DESCRIPTION: All roads led to an Easter holiday, and the great idea was to get away from the Big Smoke. New white line experiments were tried out on the roads. At St Albans Cathedral the Queen attended the Maundy Service. Long ago, a widow who was tenant of a pub at Bow, kept a bun for her sailor son, who never returned, and every year since then a sailor has hung up a bun in the bar. The tradition in Hyde Park on Easter Day seemed to be the collection of a huge crowd, who went to see what they could see. There were a number of Easter Bonnets calculated to excite admiration and amusement. Herne Hill once again attracted cyclists in their thousands. They proceeded to watch the experts compete in a series of exciting contests. At Teddington, the weather was almost too fine for the Easter regatta. Altogether about a hundred and ninety boats competed. For real peace at Easter time, London’s parks are hard to beat. The Zoo drew big holiday crowds, Princess Anne’s young bear Nikki and his playmate Rusk were among the lively attractions. Naturally, the seaside was one of the biggest draws of all. People flocked to the popular resorts to make the most of a few days off. An Easter Parade story would hardly be complete without a visit to Hampstead Heath. SHOTLIST: Cars streaming out of London.
