MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Ghana’s Great Day - Independence. DESCRIPTION: The last pictures to be taken in the capital of the Gold Coast. For when the day was over, Accra became the Capital of Ghana, an independent nation within the Commonwealth. It was a time of rejoicing, the regatta for instance, where unusual launching methods reflected Ghana’s lively confidence in being able to paddle her own canoe. The Independence Celebration reached a climax with fireworks on the polo ground. Prime Minister Nkrumah danced into his Inauguration Speech. SHOTLIST: Elevated shots of streets. Natives dancing.
