- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Greek Tragedy. DESCRIPTION: Scenes filmed on the Island of Ithaka soon after the earthquake disaster are typical throughout the Ionian Islands - not a house is left standing intact. Estimates put the number of homeless at a quarter of a million. Reports indicate the number of people who have lost their lives may well be between one and two thousand. Help was quickly sent by many nations, the Royal Navy promptly landing supplies of all kinds. This was indeed a Greek tragedy on a vast scale. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Aerial shots of the Ionian Isles. Scenes as we approach from the sea. Island of Ithaka. Shots from the plane showing rifts in the roadway. Houses demolished. Greeks search among ruins for possessions. Homeless stand in groups.
