MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Inauguration of President Eisenhower. DESCRIPTION: In Washington - a warn greeting between Mr Truman and the man who takes over from him - General Eisenhower. They drive together from the White House to the Capitol, where Chief Justice Vinson administers the presidential oath. After the inauguration, representatives of the armed services march past the new President. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. LS Capitol. Car arrives at White House, Truman greets Eisenhower, shaking hands. The two driving through the streets to the Capitol. Cut-ins of crowded streets. Outside Capitol Eisenhower sworn-in by Chief Justice Vinson, various shots. Vinson & Ike shake hands. Truman shakes Ike’s hand. Ike goes over & kisses his wife. Back shot of Eisenhower acknowledging cheers. Eisenhower addresses the masses. Sound not very good. Crowds cheer at end of speech. Mr & Mrs Truman with daughter wave. Eisenhower in car drives through streets. CU of him standing waving to crowds. Takes the review from outside White House seen in background. Troops, all services marching past. Indians break rank & Ike & wife shake hands with Indians. Crowds watch procession. Finish of Ike & Nixon watching parade. Ike’s Speech - We must be willing individually and as a Nation to accept whatever sacrifice may be required of us. A people that value its privileges above its principles soon loses both. This is the work that awaits us all to be down with bravery, with charity and with prayer to almighty God.
