MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Hail the New Year - 1953. DESCRIPTION: New Year is still regarded as a subject for rejoicing - for music, dancing and the popping of balloons. Others prefer to keep it gently in their own homes. As the New Year is toasted, thoughts travel to Sandringham and the great royal event which will mark 1953. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Crowds in streets at Piccadilly. Interiors dancing, celebrated at Royal Albert Hall. Balloons being released from ceiling. Various shots of locals singing New Year Carol at Chipperfield. House owner walks out & gives carol singers a drink. (Queen’s Christmas speech below). GV Sandringham Gates.
