Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Lynmouth Flood Disaster. DESCRIPTION: Tragedy - sudden and appalling - descends upon the little seaside resort of Lynmouth. The havoc caused by the gentle streams, now raging torrents, transformed the village almost beyond recognition. Some eye-witnesses give account of the night of horror. Help came quickly, of course, as soon as the tragedy was known, and the ceaseless efforts of people from the local town of Lynton were supplemented by the Army, the Red Cross and WVS. SHOTLIST: Various shots of raging torrent of water pouring down Lynmouth’s main street. GV rushing water. Shots of wreckage. Huge trees & boulders piled high. Personal impressions of the tragedy given by Mr Rossiter, Molly Bowden & George Hicks. Troops with walkie talkie sets in use. WVS, Red Cross etc. helping with clothes, food. Troops dynamiting the huge boulders - clearing away the debris.
