- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Olympic Games - First Victors. DESCRIPTION: News from Helsinki included the 10,000 metres event which was won by the Czech, Emil Zatopek. The 50 Kilometre walk went to Dordoni of Italy. Britain’s R Whitlock came fourth. The 100 metres proved a sensational finish and the clock could not separate Remigino (USA, first), McKenley (Jamaica, second) and Britain’s MacDonald Bailey (third) who were all credited with 10.4 seconds. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Sign of the Games (five circles) KS. GV crowded stadium, reporters in their seats. Nina Romaschkova throws discus & wins. Russia took first three places, girls on stand. Men’s High Jump, Walt Davis for America clears 6’8 3/8. CU winner. 10,000 Metres Zatopek lies in rear. Zatopek improves position & takes lead followed by Mimoun (France) & Pirie (Great Britain). Zatopek laps several runners closely followed by Mimoun. Zatopek wins. . 50k walk - start in stadium, then out on the road, various shots showing competitors, including Whitlock (GB). Three Russians (CU rears) on road. CU Dordoni of Italy on road & entering stadium, passing winning tape. . 100 Metres - Remigino (USA) wins with McKenley (Jamaica) & MacDonald Bailey (GB) & others all nearly dead-heat. Repeat of the race, SCU photo finish. Stop motion at winning tape.
