Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: British Storm Police Barracks. DESCRIPTION: British troops had waited in Ismailia, while orders were broadcast to Egyptian police to leave their headquarters and surrender. The Lancashire Fusiliers were the infantry engaged, supported by Armoured Cars and Centurion Tanks. When all attempts to reason had failed, they returned the fire which had been opened by Egyptians from the Bureau Sanitaire Buildings. The climax of the three-hour battle that followed was the bayonet assault by the infantry, the surrender of surviving Egyptian police (over forty were killed and many others injured) and the taking of large quantities of arms and ammunition. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV Tanks (Centurians) along side wall. British troops alongside wall. Various shots Lancashire Fusiliers firing their rifles. General Erskine talks with officers. Various shots of battle in progress, shows infantry & Centurion tanks in action, tanks through wall of Egyptian police HQ. GV of ditto. (Tanks of 4th Royal Tank Regiment). Several shots troops swarming over police HQ, over walls, etc. Troops with fixed bayonets. GV of shell hit on building. Egyptian dead lie around, wounded brought out. Police surrender, climb over gate. Egyptian dead line up (laid out). Many rifles & ammunition found. Various shots of surrendered Egyptians. Being marched off, several angles, with escorts.
