Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: South Bank Closes (Festival of Britain). DESCRIPTION: The last hours at the South Bank included a number of ceremonies and farewells. There was a Tattoo by the massed bands of the Brigade of Guards on the Fairway. Tens of thousands were present - and people sang. The ceremonial hauling down of the flags provided a sense of finality - this was the end of the Festival here. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Pan of Dome of Discovery to thin crowds. Various shots of exhibits including people standing on spot directly under the Skylon & shot of Skylon from that spot. Pan - GV of Festival. Night material. Crowds with searchlights panning backwards & forwards across them. Brigade of Guards playing the Tattoo & Retreat, with searchlights played on them. Crowds. Crowds singing Jerusalem, being conducted. Flags being lowered, black-out. Crowds singing Auld Lang Syne to finish. Festival Stock Shots - CARD 56096 (1254 ft). Very good shots of the above, taken from all angles, inside & from across the river. CUs of various exhibits viz., Skylon, Dome of Discovery, Festival Hall. Crowds walking through same. Night shots of same. Beating the Retreat on the last night, various shots at night. Lights going out. Various GVs of South Bank all lit-up. Very useful stock shots, which will save you cutting into the cut stories used on the Festival of Britain. Festival Of Britain Stock Shots - CARD 56096 (1054 ft). Various shots - all angles, pans etc. of all the buildings, structures, etc. Very useful material for future. Shots of guards Beating the Retreat, also lights going out to mark end of festival.
