Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Malan V Malan. Torch Commandos Against the Government. DESCRIPTION: From many towns and centres throughout South Africa, ex-service men recently assembled for their protest drive to Capetown. Commandant de la Rey was their leader and Group Captain Sailor Malan, Battle of Britain fighter ace, was second in command. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV Kimberley Monument. Night material - Torch (mass) being held up during meetings in streets of towns. Daylight - Convoy of jeeps, cars etc., on country roads to Capetown. Commandant de la Rey (who captured Churchill during the Boer War), greets other old war comrades. CU Sailor Malan seated in jeep. Drives off waving. Various shots of Commandos on roads. Stops at various towns, giving tea at one place. Night material - Malan addresses crowds - several shots.
