MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Ring in the New. DESCRIPTION: Every New Year’s Eve leads to a bit of jubilation, hope springing eternal that the next year may turn out to be something better than the last. With many people it’s a case of modest celebrations in the home, sometimes with a little ceremony, where the traditions still give pleasure and such artistry as hand bell ringing survives. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS. Library - CU Mr Baigent ringing hand bells. Elevated GV (interior) Chelsea Arts Ball at Royal Albert Hall. Various shots of gaiety going on. Elevated GV crowds around Piccadilly Circus, dancing etc., raining. Interior - Family drinking health for the New Year. Send - Group hand bell ringers outside Mr Sanger’s residence. Night shots - various shots including close-ups of hand bell-ringers ringing out the old & ringing in the new. Mrs Sanger. Clyde & others come out of house & listen to ringing. SCU & CU Jimmy Sanger opening window & putting his head out. Family re-enter house except Clyde (tall & dark). CU hand with lump of coal in same. CU hand holding bread & half-a-crown. Clyde enters house while bell-ringer tolls out twelve o’clock. Interior - gives piece of coal to male, piece of bread to Mrs Sanger & kisses her. Half-a-crown to Jimmy, etc. Mrs Sanger comes out in garden with tray of glasses bearing beer. Family & friends with bells sing Auld Lang Syne. Piccadilly Circus - crowds singing same tune & Old Acquaintance (raining). Outside Mr Sanger’s house family wishing friends & bell-ringers A Happy New Year. All material used except at Mr Sanger’s residence is Library material.
