Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Death Valley Break-Out. DESCRIPTION: Ammunition, food and supplies of all kinds had to be assembled and flown out to Korea before the trapped Marines could break out from what has been described as Death Valley. The food and ammunition was accurately dropped to them in the Chosin Reservoir area. Casualties were heavy - both from enemy fire and from frost-bite, and large numbers were evacuated by air. Finally, burning of their camp, the break-out and the march to comparative safety. SHOTLIST: KS. Marines stand about. In Tokyo, Japs packing parcels & strapping parcels together for dropping. Aerial (inside plane) (c199 Fling Box). Aerial of valley around Chosin area. Ground shots of Marines asleep on snow covered ground, also snowing hard. Sleeping bags completely covered with snow. Various shots of Marines in snow, firing mortars, etc. Aerial of countryside. Aerial of section of a bridge being dropped by parachute. Casualties being assisted to planes which flew them out, several shots, also stretcher cases. Five year old North Korean boy helped on stretcher to plane. Various shots of Marines on the march through valleys, hills each side, look weary & tired. Elevated GV long columns of vehicles & Marines making their way to the coast, in pouring snow. Various marching shots of Marines. Various shots of tanks passing camera loaded fully with Marines, Marines wave as passing.
