Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Britain Shines in European Games. DESCRIPTION: The Flying Dutchman, Fanny Blankers-Koen, as usual, won all the events in which she competed. In the 5000 metres Zatopek, the Czech, won after making a terrific spurt near the finish. Reiff, the Belgian collapsed after just being pipped at the post by the Frenchman. Britain was victorious in the 400 metres, Derek Pugh winning in 47.3 seconds. The most unexpected was that Britain won the Games. SHOTLIST: KS. GV stadium. CU sports flag flying over stadium. Start of 80 metres - Fanny Blankers-Koen win. Maureen Dyson second. Women embrace. Start of 5000 metres, shots of Reiff, Zatopek & racing. Zatopek spurts at end & wins. Frenchman just pips Reiff into second place. Reiff collapses. Start of 400 metres, elevated GV of race with Derek Pugh of Britain winning by two yards. SCU of Pugh with runners-up on rostrum.
