DESCRIPTION: St Patrick’s Day 1950 was a particularly memorable occasion for the Irish Guards at Chelsea Barracks; for they were also celebrating the half-centenary of the founding of the regiment. SHOTLIST: KS. GV Irish Guards in full ceremonial dress, standing at ease. several CU types of Guards. GV parade. Field Marshal Lord Alexander of Tunis receives royal party, King, Queen & Princess Elizabeth. Tables of shamrock brought onto parade ground. Alexander pins sprig of shamrock on King’s uniform. Cut-in rest of royal party receive shamrock. SCU Princess Royal in new uniform of the WRAC. King presents shamrock to officers of Irish Guards. King talking (silent) Sergeant Major Murphy. Chelsea Pensioner. Several shots of marchpast, with King taking salute.
