Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Their Majesties Welcome French Visitors. DESCRIPTION: Crossing the Channel in the steamer Arromanches, the President of the French Republic and Madame Auriol received a great welcome as they approached Dover. HMS Vanguard fired a salute and RAF Vampires flew over. At Dover they were greeted by the Duke of Gloucester before boarding the special train for London. Here the French visitors were welcomed by Their Majesties and together they drove through London to Buckingham Palace. SHOTLIST: KS. Coat of Arms - "RF" surrounded by laurel leaves. Abroad the "Arromanches". Madame & M Auriol on board. Cut-in of Vampires fly over in formation. LS Dover white cliffs. "Arromanches" passes battleship "Vanguard" fully dressed & manned. Enter Dover Harbour, crowds on quay. Duke of Gloucester comes aboard. Duke with Auriols walk into camera & board train. Royal train pulls out of station into camera & under camera, smoke filling screen, pulling into Victoria Station. King & Queen, Princess Elizabeth greet Auriols. Schuman greeted by King. King introduces Duchess of Gloucester, Duchess of Kent & Princess Royal. Auriol introduced to Wavell, Attlee, Ede, First Sea Lord, King walks with Auriol, Auriol inspects Guard of Honour in courtyard of station. Auriol, King & Duke of Gloucester in first landau out of station, second Queen, Madame Auriol, Princess Elizabeth & Duchess of Gloucester. Driving through cheering crowds slightly foggy, cut-ins of sun trying to break through fog. Turning out of Whitehall into Admiralty Arch. Round Queen Victoria Memorial, very foggy & into Buckingham Palace.
