Summary
Shots of St Stephen’s Cathedral, the Opera House, City Hall, Education Centre, People’s Theatre etc., in Vienna. Destroyed bridges over the Danube. Gestapo Headquarters Schönbrunn Castle. The gutted Hotel Interpol. Hitler’s epitaph in stone. Flashback to the rout of the Nazis from Vienna. Despite Hitler’s elaborate promises to the city Soviet troops enter Vienna. Austrian prisoners are liberated. Dr Karl Renner, the new president of Austria, enters the parliamentary building with his ministers. The task of clearing the débris in the city and getting the factories back to work.
