- Summary
- Using the two pronged technique the Fourteen Army launch a land attack using heavy assault equipment with full air support; aerial shots of bombing. From the south is launched a sea attack, with naval guns and aircraft. Japanese are picked out of the sea and taken prisoner. Men of the Fourteenth Army tramp through the mud. The seaborne landing is unopposed, as the Japanese had fled from Rangoon. The Burmese people give the troops a great welcome. Food supplies dropped by parachute. Damage done by bombing raids - wrecked ports etc. Some ports still operational - unloading of supplies goes on. US NATIONAL ARCHIVE ENTRY: 10 min, sd, B&W, 35mm British infantry and tanks advance near Rangoon, Burma. Japanese positions are bombed. Amphibious forces land on the Burmese coast. British troops enter Rangoon. Supplies are dropped to troops by parachute and unloaded from ships at a Burmese port. Record Group 208 Accession 3276
