- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: A Movietone Despatch From Vanguard. DESCRIPTION: The Royal Family had to endure bad weather in the early part of their voyage. With the finer weather came the opportunity to try a range of deck activities, the miniature rifle range proving very popular. They also visited ships of the Escort, including the aircraft carrier Implacable. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS SCU wash of HMS Vanguard. Taken from bridge, bows, waves breaking over same. GV superstructure shows Royal Standard torn to tatters. Several shots of HMS St James destroyer ploughing through heavy seas. LS of HMS Implacable ploughing through heavy seas. St James comes alongside Vanguard, transferring mail bags. GV crews looking very active. On sports deck, King in shorts playing deck tennis, several shots, cut-ins of Queen and Princesses looking on, seated and standing on deck. MS Royal Family standing on deck. CU of Queen, pan to Princess Margaret. CU Princess Elizabeth. Royal Family try their hand with rifles. First Princess Elizabeth, then the King with Princess Margaret beside him, she helps him reload. SCU Queen taking cine films, Queen fires rifles, next to her is a ship’s officer. King fires rifles, Margaret looks on. MS & SCU Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret holding ship’s cat and kittens. Elevated shot of Royal Barge approaching Implacable unseen. LS HMS Cleopatra & HMS Diadem cruisers. Aboard Implacable, shots of Seafires and Fireflies taking off, also shots of them with their wings folded up, on deck. Royal Family watch from bridge. Seafires dive on floating target and fire rockets at same. MS rocket fire hitting target, astern of Vanguard. Planes landed and being folded up. LS ship’s company, flight deck in fore. MS ship’s company, marching along deck. Assembled before Queen addressing (silent) ship’s company. Crew cheer twice. On flight deck of Implacable Queen, King and two Princesses, Princess Elizabeth wears a hat with Vanguard tally-band on it and Princess Margaret wears very smart attractive hat. GV & elevated shot of Royal party going down on deck lift. Shots of destroyer, very good. Also nice shot of Princesses with ship’s cat and kittens.
