Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Admiral Byrd’s Expedition. DESCRIPTION: A new expedition prepares to leave for the Antarctic and we recall the pre-war expedition. SHOTLIST: KS GV ship. Plane being loaded aboard ship. Husky dogs going up gangway, several shots. SCU litter of puppies. American sailors take film aboard packed cases. Several shots of the many ships which is in the expedition. Crowds line rail as one of the ships gets under way. Admiral Byrd comes onto bridge and salutes. FADE to flashback to schooner 18 years ago on similar expedition. Schooner ploughing through water, also making her way through ice and snow. MS blizzard howling, blowing snow before it. Dogs in kennels, nearly covered with snow, men digging out snow from kennels so that dogs can get inside. This is on the base Little America. Dogs pulling sleighs across cracking ice. Penguins in their dozens follow explorers across ice, waddling and sliding on their stomachs.
