- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Victory Contingent Go Home. DESCRIPTION: Australia’s Contingent for the Victory Parade leave from Portsmouth on their journey home. En route they call at Gibraltar, Malta, Port Said and Colombo and their first sight of home is Freemantle. SHOTLIST: KS Aussies walk through ruined London, St Paul’s Cathedral in background. Ditto. GV of HMS Victory at Portsmouth, Aussie troops march past same. Girls and small crowd wave to troops aboard HMS Shropshire, ship pulls away, Aussies wave from deck. LS Gibraltar, troops go ashore, going through streets of Gibraltar. Riding in horse drawn vehicles. Various shots of Aussies seeing Gibraltar. Aboard ship again, LS Valletta Harbour, Malta. Troops ashore at Malta, looking at ruins of the island. Mid-Mediterranean HMS Shropshire stops to give Aussies a swim, shots of them swimming and diving over side of ship. At Port Said, looking through Suez Canal, passing through Suez Canal, transport running along banks, steam transport, engines etc. Camel train takes a rest. GVs of Canal. Defence Memorial in which Aussies played great part. In Colombo. Ceylon, Aussies ride through streets in rickshaw. Others rest at Mount Lavinia, shots of them drinking, other running down beach and going for a swim. Aboard ship, again. LS home, Freemantle, Aussies line deck looking at same.
