Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Us Strikes Threaten National Disaster. Strikes - Coal and Rail. DESCRIPTION: The Coal Strike in America has finally been settled. Whilst President Truman was asking Congress for special powers to smash the rail strike, news came through that the strike was over. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Coalminers walk into camera. GV coalmine pithead. Underground shot coalminers, all with their headlamps on walking through mines. Various shots of mechanical cutters at work. Elevated shot trucks loaded with coal. Coalminers standing about outside pithead. Mr John L Lewis walks through grounds of government building. CU Lewis. Elevated shot of empty coal trucks. Rail strike - GV passenger carriages at sidings. Locomotives at depots, various shots of same. Interior - Truman shakes hand with President. MS & SCU Truman addressing Congress saying that if an agreement is not reached by given time the United States Army will take over running of trains. Cut-ins of Congressmen. Elevated shot of messenger going to President and handing him a note. Truman then announces that an agreement has been attained. Various shots of depots, steam locomotives getting up steam. Trains on the move, passenger trains racing along tracks.
