Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: News From the States. DESCRIPTION: In the "Belmont Futurity" Race in New York the filly "Beau Gay" got out of hand and crashed through the rail. Dress and jewellery made from coal or products derived from coal such as nylon. Lew Lehr, American Movietone’s crazy comic, visits a beauty parlour. SHOTLIST: KS Skyline New York, with aircraft carrier in fore. Crowds in stands at Futurity Race, New York. Start of race, panning shot, horse nearest camera "Beau Gay" falls through rails. Jockey lying on ground, horse being led away. Winner being led into paddock. Various shots of mannequins parading in dresses, head-dresses etc. CU mannequin powdering her nose. Play suit exhibited. Other exhibits, include beach-wear, ladies underclothes, the majority of same being made from coal. Tilt from head of girl to her feet. Lew Lehr visits beauty parlour, interior shot of parlour, Lew Lehr enters looking like a tramp, asks for treatment. Being giving treatment, face massage, hair waved, what remains of it, nails manicured etc. Walks out looking perfect gentleman. Outside see shop selling cigarettes, ignores long queue, queue set about him, Lew Lehr again enters beauty shop looking as he did originally.
