MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pre-Atom Punches in the Pacific. DESCRIPTION: Pictures of the British Pacific Fleet underline the overwhelming force being brought to bear against Japan, before the offer to surrender was made. There was co-operation between the British and American forces in air strikes against the Japanese mainland. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Various shots of British Pacific Fleet, mostly aircraft carriers, one of which was HMS Formidable. Planes fastened to deck of carrier. Spray breaking over same. Seafires, Avengers. Corsairs, Helldivers and Hellcats, some taking off, others in flight over carriers in line ahead. Destroyer in background ploughing through heavy seas. GV HMS "King George V". LS Japanese plane crashing into sea. Aerial shots of American Task Force. British destroyer comes alongside American battleship USS Missouri. Admiral Rawlings transfers in bosun chair. Also American officer. Planes (rocket-firing) attacking shipping off Jap coast, also factories and airfields; rockets in flight. GV Third Fleet off coast of Japan. Interior shot Admiral Halsey checking over details. Yanks run as "action stations" are sounded. Breech of 16" gun being loaded with shells and cordite. Exterior shots 16" guns firing, several shots, coastline and hills in background. The Imperial Steel Works behind the hills being the target.
