Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Derby. DESCRIPTION: The roads to Newmarket were crowded with cars, some not having been used for the duration didn’t quite make their destination. The King, Queen and Princess Elizabeth were there to see the race which was won by the favourite ‘Dante’. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV Grandstand. Various shots of lines of cars on roads to Newmarket. Many cars ‘broken down’. Endless stream of cars. Elevated shot crowds at course. Horses in saddling ring, jockeys mounting, out of saddling ring led by G Richards. Bookies shouting the ‘odds’, cut-ins of crowds, wounded soldiers (in groups), American soldiers on rail. King, Queen & Princess Elizabeth walking towards grandstand. Horse going up to starting line. LS race-board. Elevated shot of horses going up. At the starting line; Captain Allison climbs into starters box, starts race, Dante on offside. Horse running; on the swing; up the straight, elevated shot, Dante who was in centre now pulling out, goes onto win by two lengths, head separating Midas & Court Martial. Passing winning post. Led into Unsaddling Ring, with W Nevett up; by Sir Eric Ohlson. King shakes hands with W Nevett congratulating him on his win.
